I wish I could say my husband and I grew up with green thumbs, bought our dream property years ago, and nurtured our garden into a productive powerhouse, growing all of our own produce and more besides.
In reality, we’re a suburban couple, married 22 years, who bought a row house and then discovered that we enjoyed growing as many of our own veggies, fruits, and herbs as possible on a 12×20′ second-story deck. We still have to supplement from the grocery store more often than we’d like, but we’ve also been able to grow more than we thought we ever could.
Every year we learn, adjust and hope for the best from our little balc-o-farm. (Dibs on the copyright! Just kidding…)
